Phone number on the windscreen, or a QR sticker? A privacy comparison
Many drivers leave a phone number on the dashboard or windscreen so anyone they block can call them. It works, but it has trade-offs worth knowing about.
What a visible number means
- Anyone who walks past can read and save it, including people you would never want to hear from.
- The number can end up on spam and marketing lists, or be misused to make unwanted calls.
- You cannot take it back once it is printed or written and photographed.
- If your number changes, the sticker or card is out of date.
What a QR sticker does differently
A QR sticker holds a link, not your number. When someone scans it, they land on a page where they can send you a message or start a call through the app. You are notified and can answer, and the other person never sees your number.
- You choose how you are reached, by message or call.
- You can update your details without replacing the sticker.
- Even if someone photographs the sticker, they only get the same contact page, not your number.
Things to keep in mind
- A QR sticker needs a phone with a camera and internet. Most people have both, but a printed fallback is not possible without exposing the number.
- You need to keep notifications on so you notice messages and calls.
- Use a clear, undamaged sticker so it scans easily, and place it where it is visible from outside.
Which is better?
If privacy matters to you, a QR sticker is the better balance: people can still reach you quickly, and your number stays yours. You can try how it feels from a finder's side with the live demo.
