What to put on your pet's collar tag (and what to leave off)

A tag is the quickest way for a finder to get your pet home, but it is also a public surface. Anyone can read it.

What helps a finder

  • Your pet's name, so they respond when called.
  • One way to reach you.
  • A note if your pet needs medication.

What to be careful with

  • A full home address tells strangers where you live and when the house is empty.
  • A phone number can be copied by anyone who sees the collar.

Where a QR tag helps

A QR tag holds a link instead of your number. The finder scans, sees your pet's photo and can call or message you through the page, while your number stays private. You can change your details later without replacing the tag.

Practical tips

  • Keep the tag small enough that it does not annoy the pet.
  • Cover a printed QR with clear tape or use a tag holder so rain does not smudge it.
  • Test the QR yourself by scanning it with a phone.
  • Keep the collar on at all times, even indoors.
